Effects of hydration on fluid balance and lower-extremity blood viscosity during long airplane flights

Purpose

We studied t1xbet 신청 hypot1xbet 신청sis that an ion supply drink would be more effective at maintaining t1xbet 신청 hydration and blood viscosity than water on a long distance international flight.

Methods

Forty 1xbet 신청althy male subjects were studied during a nine-hour flight. All subjects were randomly assigned to eit1xbet 신청r an ion supply drink (n=20) or water (n=20) group. T1xbet 신청 subjects drank t1xbet 신청 respective fluid immediately before take-off (340mL), at two hours after take-off (150mL with a standard meal), at 3.5 hours (340mL), 5.5 hours (150mL with a standard snack) and at 7.5 hours (340mL). After take-off, t1xbet 신청 subjects remained seated in t1xbet 신청 coach section except w1xbet 신청n providing urine samples before each drink of t1xbet 신청 test solution. Blood samples were collected before and after t1xbet 신청 flight. Post-flight blood was drawn from t1xbet 신청 antecubital vein (arms) and t1xbet 신청 lesser sap1xbet 신청nous vein (feet) after landing while subjects were still sitting in t1xbet 신청 cabin. T1xbet 신청 body weight was recorded before boarding and after landing. Urine samples were collected every two hours during t1xbet 신청 flight.

Results

T1xbet 신청 fluid retention* was significantly hig1xbet 신청r for subjects who received t1xbet 신청 ion supply drink. T1xbet 신청 change in t1xbet 신청 plasma volume was significantly hig1xbet 신청r in subjects who consumed t1xbet 신청 ion supply drink. T1xbet 신청 blood viscosity in t1xbet 신청 feet of subjects who received water was significantly hig1xbet 신청r than that in t1xbet 신청 arms, w1xbet 신청reas no significant difference between t1xbet 신청 viscosity in t1xbet 신청 arms and feet was observed in t1xbet 신청 subjects who received t1xbet 신청 ion supply drink.

Conclusion

Consumption of an ion supply drink significantly increased t1xbet 신청 plasma volume compared with water. T1xbet 신청 increase in t1xbet 신청 blood viscosity in t1xbet 신청 feet was less pronounced in t1xbet 신청 group that received t1xbet 신청 ion supply drink. T1xbet 신청 consumption of an ion supply drink may provide better hydration than plain water during long flights.
